Partner Simone A. Randolph joined the firm’s Chicago office. She focuses on complex commercial real estate and finance transactions, with experience in syndicated, mezzanine and construction financing. Randolph advises lending institutions on loan purchases and sales, loan restructures and modifications. She counsels companies with large real estate portfolios on all aspects of property ownership. Randolph advises international and domestic prime operators and Airport Concession Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (ACDBEs) and works with women- and minority-owned businesses in submitting certification applications. Randolph received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A.Sc., magna cum laude, from Duke University.

<a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/notaro-marcus" target="_self" rel="noopener">Marcus Notaro</a>, an associate in Cleveland, focuses on matters including the acquisition and disposition of real property, debt and equity financing, zoning and land use planning, joint ventures, business formation and reorganizations. He has supported clients with cell tower leasing, modernization activities and local government permitting processes, including compliance with local zoning, land use and building codes. Her practice focuses on representing purchasers and sellers in acquisitions and dispositions of real property and entity assets in addition to counseling borrowers and lenders on complex real estate financing transactions. She received her J.D. from New York Law School and her B.A. from New York University.

<a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/tomsick-rick" target="_self" rel="noopener">Rick Tomsick</a>&nbsp;joined the Cleveland office as counsel and focuses his practice on matters involving shopping center development, negotiation of office and retail leases, and related development drafting with a concentration on restaurant, office, health sciences and mixed-use retail leasing. Tomsick received his J.D and B.A. from Case Western Reserve University and his master’s degree from John Carroll University.

<a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/kerman-david" target="_self" rel="noopener">David Kerman</a>, an associate in Atlanta, advises borrowers, developers, landlords and tenants on a broad range of real estate matters. He advises clients on finance transactions, including secured and unsecured lending; permanent, bridge and construction mortgage lending; mezzanine finance; subordinate debt; loan sales and purchases; and loan workouts and restructurings. Kerman received his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law and his B.A. from Davidson College.

Zach Milvo is an associate in the Cleveland office. He focuses his practice on counseling lenders, borrowers, developers, landlords and tenants on a broad range of real estate matters. He also negotiates and drafts documents related to commercial real estate transfers, leases and tax credit transactions. Milvo received his J.D. from University of Notre Dame Law School and his B.A.Sc. from University of Central Oklahoma.

Her practice primarily focuses on real estate finance and development projects supported by tax credits. Ardalan received her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School and her B.S., cum laude, from Cornell University.

<a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/loyacona-nicholas" target="_self" rel="noopener">Nicholas Loyacona</a>&nbsp;is an associate in the Cleveland office. His practice focuses on banking and real estate finance. He counsels financial institutions on commercial lending and real estate development transactions. His work focuses on construction and renovation projects supported by low-income housing tax credits. Loyacona received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his B.S., cum laude, from the University of Richmond.

<a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/thakkar-marie" target="_self" rel="noopener">Marie Thakkar</a>&nbsp;is a staff attorney in Cleveland and concentrates on residential and commercial real estate matters. Prior to joining Thompson Hine, Thakkar worked as a staff attorney for a title, escrow and appraisal management company where she conducted title insurance underwriting. She also worked in Cuyahoga County’s juvenile court division as a law clerk. Thakkar received her J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from The Ohio State University.

Jeremy Adell is a staff attorney in the Cleveland office. He focuses his practice on cell phone tower leasing and acquisitions and other commercial real estate matters. He previously served as Ohio underwriting counsel for Old Republic National Title Insurance Company. Early in his career, he worked as a brownfields program and special projects fellow for the Cleveland Department of Economic Development. Adell received his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from George Washington University.

Daniel Utrata, a staff attorney in Cleveland, focuses his practice on cell phone tower leasing and other commercial real estate matters. His experience includes conducting permitting, title review and document preparation for land acquisition, project finance and curative initiatives on wind, solar, electrical transmission and pipeline development projects. Utrata received his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and his M.A. and B.A. from Ohio University.

Robyn Minter Smyers Recognized for Civic Contributions

The Greater Cleveland chapter of The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) recently presented <a href="https://www.thompsonhine.com/professionals/smyers-robyn" target="_self" rel="noopener">Robyn Minter Smyers</a>&nbsp;with the Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award. She received the recognition in connection with AFP’s celebration of National Philanthropy Day®. A partner in Thompson Hine’s Real Estate, Construction and Corporate Transactions &amp; Securities practice groups, Smyers is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. She was nominated for the award by the City Club of Cleveland, where she served as board president from July 2018 through June 2021. Her tenure as president included addressing the challenges of COVID-19 and launching the largest fundraising campaign in the City Club’s history. Smyers is known for her advocacy of racial and social justice, democracy-building causes, education reform and the arts.
